Inbox by Gmail opened by invitation on October 22, 2014 and made email feel less like a punishment. It bundled your messages, let you snooze them and wrote replies for you. By May 2017 Smart Reply was driving about 12% of mobile replies, which means about one in eight mobile replies was a robot saying "Sounds good!" In the shutdown notice Google called Inbox "a great place to experiment with new ideas." Its users had thought it was a product. It shut down on April 2, 2019, the same day as Google+. Google held a double funeral and skipped both.
