Sidecar was founded in September 2011 and spent four years proving that ride-sharing does not hand out bronze medals. Regulators fined it. In 2013 the Philadelphia Parking Authority ran a sting operation to shut it down. It gave away every ride at South By Southwest. By August 2015 most of its business was delivering goods, food and flowers. It announced the end on December 29, 2015 and closed on December 31. General Motors bought the assets weeks later and hired its CTO and 20 others. Richard Branson was an investor. Even he could not get it off the ground.
