Clubhouse launched in March 2020, the exact month the world got locked indoors, and mistook a captive audience for a fan base. It was valued at $100 million early, then $1 billion, then $4 billion. Invitations sold on eBay for up to $400. Ten million people sat on the waitlist. Then the doors of real rooms reopened. In April 2023 the company cut half its staff and called it a "resetting." As far as anyone can tell it is still running. So is the conversation in room four, where a man has been explaining crypto since 2021 and nobody can find the leave button.
