Mailbox launched on February 7, 2013 with a waiting list of over 380,000 people. They queued for the right to check their email. It was the second most downloaded free app in the App Store that day. Dropbox bought the company the next month. Under Dropbox it added Android and a Mac beta. At one point it supported Yahoo Mail for three days. In December 2015 Dropbox announced the end, admitting it had not been able to "fundamentally fix email." Mailbox was discontinued on February 26, 2016. Email remains unfixed. It has outlived every app sent to kill it.
