Nexus Q
A $300 bowling ball that streamed YouTube.
CAUSE OF DEATH: Delayed over bad early feedback, given away free, then quietly delisted.
Google unveiled the Nexus Q on June 27, 2012. It was a sphere that streamed music and video from Google's services, and it cost $300. It could not play your own files. It was the first hardware Google developed entirely in-house, and it shows. David Pogue's review was titled "The Google Nexus Q Is Baffling" and said it would appeal only to people "whose living rooms are dominated by bowling ball collections." A month after the unveiling, Google delayed the launch and told everyone who had pre-ordered that they would get it free. By January 2013 it was gone from the store. Google's first homemade gadget was returned unopened.
