Jawbone began in 1999 as AliphCom. By 2002 it was researching noise suppression with grants from the U.S. Navy and DARPA. It used that military technology to make a headset, which is a long way to go to help a man in a car yell at his assistant. By 2011 it had launched the Jambox speaker and the UP fitness tracker. It was liquidated in July 2017. The fitness tracker was pulled from shops in 2018. The corpse kept working, though. In 2021 Jawbone's patents were used to sue Samsung, four years after the company died. Its most durable product turned out to be the paperwork.
