Jeff Bezos "obsessively monitored" this phone, and it shows. It had five front-facing cameras for a 3D effect nobody requested and a feature for buying whatever you pointed it at. It launched in July 2014 at $199 on contract, only on AT&T. Six weeks later it cost 99 cents. The Guardian estimated no more than 35,000 sold in the first 20 days. That October Amazon took a $170 million hit and sat on $83 million of unsold phones. The Verge called it "much less than the sum of its parts." Production stopped in August 2015. Its codename was a genus of owl. It flew like a brick.
