Google announced Glass in April 2012 and offered it to 8,000 chosen "Explorers" at $1,500 each. The public invented its own name for them: "Glassholes." Las Vegas casinos banned it. Movie theaters banned it. A driver in California was ticketed for wearing it. A woman said she was assaulted in a San Francisco bar while showing it off. An early prototype weighed 8 pounds, and the finished product was somehow harder to carry. Google said on January 15, 2015 that it would stop making it. An enterprise edition lingered until March 2023. It had been "slated as the next big thing in tech." It was a face computer nobody wanted to face.
