LimeWire launched on May 3, 2000 and became the place a generation went to download a song and receive something else. On October 26, 2010 a federal judge ordered it to stop. The recording industry suggested damages of $72 trillion, a number with twelve zeros and no shame. It settled for about $105 million. In 2022 two Austrian brothers revived the name for a music NFT marketplace, to the stated displeasure of the man who created the original. In 2023 it bought an AI image tool. In September 2025 it bought the Fyre Festival brand in an auction on eBay. The name survives. Its judgment has not improved.
