The HTC First arrived on April 12, 2013 as the Facebook phone, a title nobody else wanted. It came with Facebook Home preloaded, so your lock screen was other people's vacation photos. Reviewers called its own photos "muddy." One month after launch, reports said AT&T had sold only 15,000 units and had cut the price from $99.99 to 99 cents. Time named it one of the 47 "lamest moments in tech" of 2013. Its one real distinction: it was the first phone to ship with Instagram preloaded. Facebook had just bought Instagram. That purchase went better.
