Meerkat

Meerkat launched in February 2015 and let you broadcast live video to your Twitter followers. It was the star of South by Southwest that March. It raised $12 million. There was one problem. The whole product ran on Twitter's goodwill, and Twitter had just bought a competitor called Periscope. Within weeks of Meerkat's launch, Twitter cut off its access to the social graph. Twitter released Periscope on March 26. Meerkat was shut down on October 4, 2016, and its website now redirects to a different app. Building your house on someone else's land works until the landlord wants a house.
