Yahoo Answers opened on December 8, 2005 and let anyone ask anything and anyone answer it, which was the flaw. By 2009 its staff claimed 200 million users. It became the internet's richest deposit of confidently wrong advice. A troll named Ken M posted there so effectively that Time named him one of the most influential people online. Its mascot was a hamster, inspired by a toy that a manager used to summon staff to meetings. Between 2010 and 2015 its U.S. audience fell 77%. Yahoo shut it down on May 4, 2021, saying it "has become less popular over the years." That same week, Verizon agreed to sell Yahoo itself.
